Service Description
SKILL LEVEL: Beginner 6 week course - Thursday mornings, March 13 - April 17 10am - 12pm Deadline to register: March 7 Class Description: We will cover various techniques, papers, paints and brushes used in watercolor painting. We will also talk about some of the elements of art: line, shape, space, texture and color. We will also explore ways to fix your “boo boos" and how to create better compositions. My hope is that each student will begin or add to a journey in creating that will be exciting and fun! Material list: I use Windsor Newton artist grade tube paints. What is true with all of these materials is that the better the materials are, the better your results be. Unfortunately, the better materials are more expensive. Materials are available from Dick Blick, Cheap Joe’s and Amazon. Paint: Alizeran Crimson Cadmium red Lemon yellow Cadmium yellow Veridian Green Sap green French Ultramarine Blue Cobalt Blue Burnt sienna Burnt umber Paper: I use 140lb D’Arches hot press paper but others like the rough or cold press papers that have different textures. The hot press paper is very smooth. We will try each type. If you already own other types of paper, even the paper that comes in blocks, that works too. I just prefer the loose sheets. I think that D’Arches paper is one of the best watercolor papers, but again, that is a personal preference. You can purchase any of these papers online or at Hobby Lobby. Brushes: Bring whatever brushes you may have. I use both flat brushes and rounds, but there are lots of different types to choose from, depending on what techniques you use. We will be discussing brushes and their uses during class. DON'T STRESS, WE HAVE SUPPLIES ON HAND! About the Instructor: Margaret (Marg) Bucher is a professional artist and retired art teacher who moved to Newberry in 2023 when she and her husband retired.
